Connect DuraLabel Toro to a PC

Overview

When Toro is in Desktop Mode, with its screen and keyboard folded away, it can receive print jobs from a PC just like a desktop printer. You will need to connect your Toro to your PC with a standard USB cable (USB-A to USB-B).

Connecting the Printer

When connecting your Toro to a PC for the first time, follow these steps.

1. Make sure Toro has power, either from a battery or from its corded power supply. Fold away its screen and keyboard to put it in Desktop Mode, and power it on by pressing the power button.
2. Next, connect a USB cable from the Toro?s USB-B port to a USB-A port on your PC.
3. Download the driver software from GraphicProducts.com/support and run the downloaded program to continue. You will need IT administrator privileges to continue.
4. Follow the prompts to complete driver installation. If you need help, please contact your DuraLabel representative for support.

PC Driver Settings

When printing from a PC, Toro?s automatic setting selections will be overruled by the manual controls in the Printing Preferences window. In most cases, you will only need to change these settings when you load a new type of label stock or printing ribbon, so that is an excellent time to make the necessary changes.

The best way to adjust these settings is through the Devices and Printers window:

1. Close any label design programs that are running, such as DuraSuite or LabelForge. (You can return to your label design after choosing the necessary settings.)
2. In your computer?s Start menu, choose ?Devices and Printers.? (If you do not see this option, open the Control Panel and choose ?Devices and Printers? there. In Windows 10, this may be called ?Printers & Scanners.?)
3. Right-click the entry for your Toro and choose Printing Preferences. The driver settings window will open.

This window has several tabs: Page Setup, Graphics, Stock, Options, and About. (The About tab has no options, only information about your driver software.)

PAGE SETUP

The first tab of the driver settings is for basic label controls, such as print orientation.

For most label designs, the orientation will need to be set to Landscape. The Stock Name setting, which lets you set custom label dimensions, can be left on the default setting (USER) when you use label design programs such as DuraSuite or LabelForge.

The less common settings, available on the other tabs, can also be set for you automatically from this tab. Simply choose an option from the Presets dropdown menu; these match the settings that are available in Toro?s Standalone Mode. The most common setting here is 3 Default.

GRAPHICS

This tab includes options for Dithering, which describes using a pattern of small dots to approximate different levels of darkness. For bold, clear labels, this should typically be set to None (the default setting); for complex labels with multiple shades of gray, the Halftone option is usually best.

STOCK

This tab includes options for different types of label stock and how your Toro will handle them.

Print Method

For nearly all label materials, the Print Method should be set to Thermal Transfer (the default setting). Some unusual materials do not require a printing ribbon and can be used with the Direct Thermal printing method.

Media Type

This option describes the type of label stock that you have loaded:

• Continuous: an uninterrupted, continuous roll of label stock (the most common supply type, and the default setting)
• Label With Gaps: a roll of pre-cut labels, usually pre-printed with some elements, with small gaps between labels
• Labels With Marks: a roll of partially pre-printed labels, with black marks on the backing to distinguish one label from the next

If the wrong Media Type has been selected, Toro may print and cut in the wrong place on your roll of label stock, or it may give an error.

Post-Print Action

This option decides whether Toro will cut your labels from the roll of supply (the default option) or take no action after printing (which will leave your labels connected to each other).

Occurrence

If you want Toro to cut your labels, you can also set when the cutter operates: after every label (the default option), after identical copies, after a set number of labels, or after each complete print job.

Options

When needed for troubleshooting, you can adjust the print speed and darkness settings for your Toro here. The darkness setting controls how much heat is used to transfer the resin ?ink? onto the label stock during the printing process: some supplies require more or less heat for the best print quality.

• Increasing the heat (a higher darkness value) can clear up problems with faint or ?faded? printing.
• Lowering the heat (a lower darkness value) may be needed if the ribbon ?snaps? or wrinkles during the print.
