What's How-To Create NFPA/RTK Labels with LabelForge PRO?

Video Transcription

This video will describe how to create a supplemental chemical information label using the LabelForge Pro software. These labels are based on the popular NFPA 704 Standard. On Kodiak click the NFPA/RTK button on the home screen to get started. There are two major types of labels in the module.

The NFPA Diamond labels use the well recognized four-color diamond format, while the RTK color bar labels use an alternative layout with horizontal bars. You can choose which which label type you're creating with the module selector, here. This module keeps an internal database of chemical information, already populated with hundreds of common industrial chemicals. You can search for a specific entry using the search function at the top of the screen And use the arrow buttons to browse your search results.

To start a new entry in the chemical database click the "New Label" button and the editing menu will slide out automatically. If you need to adjust the information in an entry, just find the entry you want to change and click the "Edit Record" button. Here, you can start with basic details like the chemical name and CAS registry number. Choose a signal word (Caution, Warning or Danger) if desired.

Adjust the hazard ratings for the chemical, from zero to four, with the minus and plus buttons. For materials that pose a specific hazard such as oxidizers or simple asphyxiants click the arrow for specific rating and check the boxes for the appropriate hazards. Similarly, to add information about additional health hazards or target organ hazards, click the arrow for health hazards or organ hazards, and check the appropriate boxes. If specific PPE is required, click the arrow for PPE symbols and choose the appropriate items.

Finally, if any additional comments need to be made click the arrow for comments and type your message in the field provided. When you've finished entering these details save them into the program's internal database with the "Save Database" button, here. To choose the dimensions and other formatting choices for your label open the label setting menu, here. You can choose a label template sorted by size, as well as the font for your text.

Finally, you can toggle two options for the label's design, showing the PPE symbols or your manually entered comments. Once you've made all of your selections, you can save the label design for further customization with the "Save Label" button, or start printing right now!
